Sign the Open Letter in Opposition to Anti-Diversity Legislation

As the union of faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate student workers at public institutions of higher education in South Carolina, UCW-SC calls on campus workers and community members to sign an open letter in opposition to the newest wave of anti-diversity legislation targeting SC campuses.
A host of bills introduced during this legislative session attack key civil rights infrastructure in our public institutions, including our colleges and universities. The consequences of these bills would be severe, including:
- requiring trans and nonbinary students and workers to use campus restrooms that don't align with their gender
- banning student organizations and student success initiatives for underrepresented student populations
- banning faculty and staff organizations and initiatives that reference identity, including faculty affinity groups, staff associations, and professional development conferences
These bills are part of a broader attack on academic freedom and shared governance in higher education in South Carolina and across the country. Join us in calling on our legislators and university administrators to reject the politicization of higher education and to focus on our mission to serve and educate all students.
